PROVEN, POSITIVE TOWN MANAGEMENT
- Reduced 2009 Town budget by over $200,000 with no reduction in services.
- Reduced 2009 taxes on all motor vehicles and all business personal property.
- Achieved ’08-’09 budget surplus of $229,000.
- Reduced payments on Town debt, savings millions of dollars in interest costs.
- Increased the Town net worth each year since 1999, limiting debt, paying in cash.
- Reduced real estate tax rate, lowest on CT Shoreline, one of the lowest in the State.
- Raised Town Bond Rating. Highest CT Shoreline rating by Moody’s.
- Built Main Street Welcome Center, paid cash, no debt.
- Renovated Firehouse, bought 2 new trucks, paid cash, no debt.
- Modernized High School & Middle School, 40% cash, minimal debt.
- Built The Kate, reduced original debt service by over $1 million.
- Converted Town Hall, refinanced to save over $150,000 interest costs.
- Renovated Saybrook Point Pavilion, paid in full, generates over $100,000/year.
- Renovated Acton Library, nationally acclaimed, will be fully paid-off by 2011.
- Built Parks & Recreation Center, refinanced to save over $150,000 interest costs.
- Renovated Senior Center
- Obtained special tax relief for Town elderly and firefighters.
- Added Great Cedars Conservation Area, 315 acres of new town open space.
- Committed 25% of all Town Land to open space; most of any Shoreline Town.
- Completed Fishways Project to protect Oyster River watershed spawning.
- Created State Model for affordable workforce housing for Old Saybrook.
- Established CT River Area Health District. Strengthened waste water management policies.
- Reclaimed Founder’s Park, upgraded Transfer Station, Town Garage
